Relief Skills Trainer

Non-Exempt

On-call/Part Time

Standard shift hours/Hrs. per week: Relief Skills Trainer may be pre-assigned scheduled shifts on a monthly basis; and last minutes shifts are also available on an as needed basis

Hiring Range: $18.50/hr

Essential Functions:

Performing the following will involve travel, including driving, to various locations.

  • Supervision of youth in program as assigned by Program Coordinator.
  • Provide role-modeling behavior, facilitate appropriate communications, model and develop suitable problem solving and introduce conflict resolution skills for young children, supervise and monitor the whereabouts of Introduces youth to standards of behavior in conjunction with the foster parent, guiding appropriate interactions and interceding as necessary when behavior is inappropriate.
  • Maintain clear and respectful communications with other staff, youth, family member, and community partners, etc., consistent with agency communication standards.
  • Provide Individual and Group Skill Building activities to youth as assigned.
  • Supervise recreational activities for youth, both on-site and in the community in coordination with foster parents and staff.
  • Supervise recreational and cultural activities for youth in a variety of settings in order to help youth incorporate new skills and be exposed to positive community life.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and files in accordance with quality assurance standards. Accurately complete all paperwork and documentation of services as required by program within identified timelines, including daily logging, services provided, data entry, incident reports, etc.
  • Document incidents, and other emergency situations, and immediately notify Program Coordinator/Therapeutic Care Coordinator (Case Manager) and/or Supervisor on Site.
  • Provide on-time and accurate distribution and documentation of prescription medications to youth if directed while foster parent is away.
  • Accurately shares relevant information regarding client's daily behaviors, progress, regression, and needs. Documents information into ETO.
  • Coordinates and implements the skill building elements of youth's service plans through consistent interaction with each client's Therapeutic Care Coordinator - Case Manager. (Some clients may not have a formal service plan due to short term stay, but skills trainer may be given verbal directions on short term goals.) Works in a collaborative team environment with other program staff and attends weekly staff meetings.
  • Participate in agency-provided trainings. Seeks out continuing education and training in areas identified by Program Coordinator. Participate in program meetings and trainings which may occur outside of regularly scheduled shifts.
  • Manages time and workload to meet needs of assigned clients, program, and contract requirements.
  • Must respond to monthly schedule request by the stated deadline and within two hours of the same day schedule requests with a "Yes" or "No" answer if called when employee stated he/she would be available.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is a requirement of the position and is evidenced by working a minimum of 1 shift per week unless pre-arranged with the direct supervisor.

Secondary Functions:

  • Attend Team Meetings, and Foster Parent Meetings as requested.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

Must be able to provide appropriate services and interact appropriately with people from diverse socio-economic, racial, ethnic, and other cultural groups.

  • Job Knowledge: Master's Degree with major study in social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely allied field and a minimum one (1) year experience, OR BA in one of those fields with minimum 2 years' experience. Must have demonstrated knowledge and prior experience in providing services to young children in an individual and group setting including knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and DHS Child Welfare/Foster Care. Level 5
  • Supervising: Directly supervises up to 2-3 clients at one time in foster home based on children's ages and needs. Two clients in the community. Responsible for maintaining group safety and appropriate interactions among children. Level 1
  • Decision Making: Decision making, problem-solving, and/or recommendations within scope of position responsibilities. Must often work independently outside of the foster home setting. Some supervision available for new or unusual situations or assignments, and only limited supervision for regular work. Some risk when caring for children in community settings.    Level 4
  • Interpersonal Skills/Interactions: Regularly interacts and communicates with broad range of people, both in foster homes and community. Communicates regularly with community partners. May have substantial, but limited contact with the public. Level 4
  • Impact: Customer service is an important part of the job, and actions influence client's sense of satisfaction. Some program development is part of the job responsibility. Ability to influence client treatment outcomes occurs regularly, but is limited to personal interactions with assigned clients and assigned foster parents. Level 3

Additional Skills & Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to manage multiple and conflicting tasks requiring excellent organizational skills, as well as ability to use Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) during difficult circumstances.

Additional Requirements/Preferences, including Licenses and/or Certifications:

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence (Oregon or Washington), personal automobile liability insurance, and pass a DMV driving record check.
  • Must meet the driving requirements under the Agency Safe Driving Policy, and maintain a good driving record that is eligible for coverage by the agency's current insurance provider.
  • Must have the ability to drive standard and automatic vehicles, including the ability to drive a 12-passenger van on occasion, if necessary.
  • Must successfully pass the Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
  • Must be able to provide official grade transcripts, including the education level, from all educational institutions mentioned in the education section of the employment application.
  • Must be able to provide a copy of his/her own social security card for W-4 documentation.
  • Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 in order to establish identity and authorization to work in the US.
  • CPR/First Aid.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) initial trainings and any additional behavior management trainings provided by the agency and regular annual refreshers.

Preferences:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Systems of Care. Knowledge of Child Welfare and Foster Care.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Level 2

  • Regularly drives on Agency business.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Interactions with individuals that are unpredictable, some personal risks while performing assigned work.
  • May work in outside weather conditions.
  • May work alone on some shifts.
  • Must be able to lift and transport up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must be available to work with clients at times which best meet their needs and schedules.
